Want to Be Notified When Someone Submits Your Site to Digg?

A recent article [digg.com] about seeing when your site is submitted to Digg got me thinking. Instead of subscribing to a search feed, which only hinders Digg's already dismal search, why not extend DiggTaggr to send users emails when requested URLs are submitted?

DiggTaggr already monitors new stories, processes them to find tags, and has access to the story URL for each submission. It seems like it would be a pretty simple addition to watch for domain names that users are subscribed to and send them notification emails when they appear.

I know I can add this in, and I know it won't take too terribly much time. However, my time is limited and I can only justify building this out if there are people out there who would actually want to use such a tool. The reason I am posting this is to request feedback from anyone who might be interested. If I get enough responses, I'll set the service up when I get some time.

Here's how I see it going down:

  • Users set up a user name and password to manage their email and subscription settings
  • When the DiggTaggr script adds a story that matches one of that user's subscribed domains, it sends them a notification email with a link to the story.
  • The user would also have a custom landing page that would show all recent stories from that domain and the current number of diggs for each.

Would you be interested in something like this for your site? Want to contribute your thoughts?
